5 Reasons to Choose a PCAP Touchscreen

Apr 22, 2020

Also known as PCAT, projected capacitive (PCAP) touchscreens have become increasingly popular. Like other capacitive touchscreens, they recognize touch commands by measuring capacitance. Touching the display interface causes a reduction in capacitance, which the device’s touchscreen controller detects as a touch command. Below are five reasons to consider using a PCAP touchscreen device.

#1) Simple Construction

While they may sound complex, PCAP touchscreens feature a relatively simple construction. Most are made of three primary components: the sensor glass, a cover glass layer and a flexible printed circuit with a built-in touchscreen controller. With these three otherwise basic components, PCAP touchscreens are able to register and detect your touch commands.

#2) Moisture Resistant

Unlike most other touchscreens devices, PCAP touchscreen devices offer a higher level of moisture resistance. They feature a sealed glass layer that’s able to repel moisture. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for many other types of touchscreen technologies. When exposed to moisture, many other types will succumb to damage. This makes PCAP an excellent choice for outdoor usage as well as usage in other harsh or humid environments.

#3) High Sensitivity

In addition to being moisture resistant, PCAP touchscreen devices are incredibly sensitive to touch commands. You don’t have to press down hard or forcefully for a PCAP touchscreen device to register your touch command. On the contrary, a light-pressure tap or touch is all it takes. If your finger is close to the display interface, it will draw some of the device’s electrostatic charge, resulting in the detection of your touch command.

#4) Stylus and Thin Gloves

You might be surprised to learn that PCAP touchscreens support the use of a stylus as well as thin gloves. It’s a common myth that capacitive touchscreens only support the use of a bare finger. While this is true for some types of capacitive touchscreens, it doesn’t hold merit for PCAP devices. With a PCAP touchscreen device, you can use either a bare finger, a thin-gloved finger or a stylus.

#5) Image Clarity

PCAP touchscreen devices also offer exceptional image clarity. This is due to the fact that they are manufactured with a glass top layer. Glass, of course, is clear and transparent, so it’s able to pass nearly all light through it. The end result is an exceptional level of image clarity. If you’re planning to watch videos or perform other visually oriented tasks on your touchscreen device, there’s no better choice than PCAP.
