Apple Offers to Replace Touchscreens for iPhone X Users

Nov 26, 2018

Do you own an iPhone X? The 11th generation of Apple’s flagship smartphone, it’s become one of the hottest mobile devices of the year. It features a 2.39 GHz hexa-core processor, 3 GB of RAM, 64 or 128 GB of storage space and a brilliant 5.8-inch capacitive touchscreen display. Unfortunately, though, many iPhone X users have reported problems with their device’s touchscreen display. Specifically, users of the handset have reported two problems with the touchscreen display: It doesn’t respond to touch commands, or it triggers commands even when the touchscreen display isn’t touched.

iPhone X users first complained about their touchscreen woes on social media networks like Facebook and Twitter. And while the aforementioned problems don’t affect all iPhone Xs, it’s becoming more and more common as the handset continues to sell. This has prompted many users to demand action by Apple — and it appears that Apple is listening.

Earlier this month, Apple unveiled a replacement program to resolve issues that users have been encountering with their iPhone X’s touchscreen display. This program will repair or replace affected iPhone X models free of charge. To take advantage of it, users must find an Apple Authorized Service Provider and schedule a service appointment at one of these retail stores. Alternatively, users can contact Apple Support directly to schedule a mail-in service using the company’s Apple Repair Center.

It’s unknown what exactly is causing the touchscreen display in iPhone X models to fail. Apple simply cites a “component” as being the underlying problem, though it didn’t say what component, specifically, is to blame. Nonetheless, the Cupertino company has pledged to fix the problem free of charge. If you own an iPhone X that’s suffering from touchscreen problems, don’t hesitate to contact Apple to schedule a repair. Before doing so, though, Apple recommends creating a backup of your iPhone X to the cloud so that you don’t lose any data.

Before service, backup your iPhone to iTunes or iCloud. Learn more about preparing your iPhone for service. If your iPhone X has any damage which impairs the ability to complete the repair, such as a cracked screen, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the service. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the additional repair.”

It’s important to note that Apple’s new replacement program is only available for its 11th generation iPhone, the iPhone X. It is not available for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max or other models.
