The human machine interface (HMI) market continues to grow larger and more widespread with each passing year. It wasn’t long ago when HMIs consisted primarily of mechanical devices, but the technology has since evolved into computers, touchscreen systems, cars and more. So, where is the HMI market headed?
According to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc., the HMI market will reach a whopping $6.31 billion by 2022. There are several key factors attributed to the growth of the HMI market, one of which is increased availability of precious metals and electronic components necessary for their production. With companies now producing more HMIs at a lower cost, customers can purchase them with greater ease. But this isn’t the only reason why the HMI market is trending upwards.
Another reason why the HMI market is growing is because companies are utilizing them across a variety of different applications and settings. HMIs have long been viewed as a manufacturing tool, with manufacturing companies using them to facilitate their normal day-to-day operations. While HMIs are still used for this very reason, they are also used in other settings, such as hospitals for instance. Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare practitioners use HMIs to control healthcare equipment, as well as storage devices on which patient data is stored. Other applications for HMIs include restaurants, retail stores, cars, aerospace engineering, research and development, and more.
HMIs also offer numerous benefits to companies, making them an attractive choice in the workplace. We’ve talked about this before on our blog, but it’s worth mentioning again that HMIs promote greater productivity. If workers are currently required to manually lift and manipulate objects on a daily basis, perhaps an HMI-equipped machine can be used to expedite this process. Rather than having workers manually lift and move heavy objects, employers can use HMIs to automate the process; thus, saving time while promoting greater productivity and efficiency.
The truth is that HMIs are still in their infancy, so there’s really no way of telling what’s in store for them. With that said, all indications suggest that the HMI market will continue to grow larger in the years to come. And assuming the Grand View Research report is correct, it will exceed more than $6 billion within the next six years.
